Environmental Benefits of Moving Your Gas Heating to Electric

Heating your home is one of the areas where you can make the most significant impact on your carbon footprint, so choosing the right boiler for your home is a crucial step to take when it comes to the environmental impact. Studies have shown that an astonishing 85% of the UK’s population currently rely on a gas boiler to heat their home, and in turn, this accounts for 14% of the carbon emissions produced by the UK alone.

With the UK being committed to reducing emissions to zero by 2050, along with the new government legislation to ban gas boilers in new build homes from 2025, electric heating is set to become the most attractive option when it comes to selecting your new heating system.

The new 2025 boiler ban, explained.

The new legislation on boilers that has attracted some big news headlines is that there will be no new gas boilers after 2025 – in newly built homes. So, all new homes built after 2025 will have an alternative heating system, such as an electric boiler or heat pumps for example. The gas boiler ban doesn’t apply to properties that were built before 2025 – i.e. the homes we already live in.

So, what are the environmental benefits of electric heating?

“Since gas is a non-renewable resource, it won’t be around forever – so now is the perfect time to switch to a low-energy electric heating system, which will dramatically reduce your carbon footprint.”

– Frazer MacFarlane, New System Plumbers, has been using The Electric Heating Company’s products for 8 years.

Electric heating produces zero emissions, making it completely environmentally friendly since we don’t need to rely on fossil fuels or connect to the gas mains.

Renewable energy

With the increase in the installation of wind and solar farms across the UK, the energy used to supply electricity has become much greener over the years and will continue to increase.

Carbon emissions

Unlike gas systems which produce damaging carbon emissions that enter the atmosphere,

electric heating does not burn fossil fuels, therefore is a much cleaner alternative.

Efficiency

100% of the heat output from electric systems is used, so no energy or heat is ever wasted.

With that in mind, what are the benefits for you?

– 100% energy efficiency

– Smart controls

– No combustible fuel sources

– Low installation costs

– Reducing carbon footprint

Along with the added benefits of the comfort, control and affordability that electric boilers

have to offer, the units can also be placed anywhere within your property and have no

requirement for a gas flue or the same pipework that is required when installing a gas boiler.
