Efficient, Cost-Effective, and Safe: A Guide to Electric Radiators

Introduction

Electric radiators have become a popular heating solution in recent years, offering 99.9% efficiency, ease of use, and a safe, eco-friendly alternative to traditional gas-based heating systems. If you’re considering making the switch to electric radiators but have some burning questions, you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post, we’ll address the most common queries about electric radiators, while providing valuable insights and answers to help you make an informed decision.

  1. How Efficient are Electric Radiators?

Electric radiators are remarkably efficient, converting 99.9% of the energy they consume into heat. Unlike central heating systems that lose some heat through the pipes, electric radiators deliver warmth directly to the room. Localised heat is possible with electric radiators, where the user can pick & choose which room the heating should be on at rather than having the full central heating on which results in higher efficiency. The advancements in heating technology, such as Ceramic tablets, programmable thermostats and smart controls, further enhance their efficiency by allowing precise temperature regulation and avoiding unnecessary energy wastage.

  1. Do Electric Radiators Use a Lot of Electricity?

Electric radiators are designed to be as energy-efficient as possible and as cost-effective as possible. The electricity consumption largely depends on the radiator’s wattage, usage, usage patterns, and the size of the space it’s heating. Opting for energy-efficient models such as our Heat Retention Radiators and using them strategically can significantly reduce electricity consumption. For instance, all our electric radiators come with programmable timers and thermostats can be set to heat rooms only when needed, thereby saving on energy costs.

  1. How Do Electric Radiators Work?

Electric radiators operate on a simple principle: electricity passes through a heating element, which then warms up the radiator’s internal fluid or heating elements. As the fluid or elements heat up, the warmth is emitted into the room through the radiator’s surface. Our Heat Retention Radiators come with Magmatic tablets which retain heat for much longer than average and provides an even split of convected heat and radiant heat, ensuring a comfortable and consistent temperature throughout the space.

  1. What Size Electric Radiator Do I Need?

Selecting the right-sized electric radiator is crucial for efficient heating. We employ professional product specifiers to assist you with the decision making process to make sure you are making an informed decision when purchasing. The required size depends on factors such as the room’s dimensions, insulation, and desired temperature. As a general rule of thumb, you’ll need approximately 100 watts per square meter of room space. For larger rooms or spaces with poor insulation, consider slightly higher wattage to compensate for heat loss.

  1. Do Electric Radiators Need Their Own Circuit?

In most cases, our electric radiators do not require a dedicated circuit. They can be plugged into standard electrical outlets. However, it’s essential to consider the total electrical load in the room or area where the radiators will be used. If the existing circuit is already heavily loaded, it might be advisable to have a separate circuit to prevent overload and potential tripping of the circuit breaker.

  1. What is the Best Electric Radiator?

The “best” electric radiator depends on your specific needs and preferences. Consider factors such as energy efficiency, heating capacity, programmable features, and design aesthetics. Which we are proud to be leading the market in all these electric radiator features. Have a read at our customer reviews on Trustpilot and the experts will recommend our products as a perfect match for your home or office.

  1. How to Clean Electric Radiators?

Cleaning electric radiators is a simple process. Start by ensuring the radiator is turned off and disconnected from the power source. Gently remove dust and debris using a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or liquids that could damage the surface. Regular maintenance will ensure optimal performance and extend the radiator’s lifespan.

  1. Are Electric Radiators Safe?

Yes, electric radiators are safe to use. Unlike gas-based heating systems, electric radiators do not produce harmful emissions, making them a safer option for indoor heating. The Electric Heating Company’s electric radiators also come equipped with safety features like overheat protection and thermal cut-off switches, which automatically turn off the radiator in case of overheating, preventing any potential hazards.

  1. Can You Paint Electric Radiators?

Painting electric radiators is possible, but it is essential to use the right type of paint. High-temperature paint designed for radiators should be applied to avoid damage or interference with the radiator’s performance. Always consult the manufacturer’s guidelines and recommendations before attempting to paint your electric radiator. Our Heat Retention Radiators are also available in any RAL Colour of your choice.

Conclusion

In conclusion, electric radiators offer an efficient, cost-effective, and safe heating solution for your home or workplace. Their versatility, ease of use, and eco-friendly nature make them an attractive choice for modern-day living. When choosing an electric radiator, consider your specific requirements, room size, and desired features to find the perfect match for your heating needs. With proper maintenance and responsible usage, your electric radiator will keep you warm and cosy for years to come while minimising your environmental impact.

This actually depends on your situation. Some people set the radiator temperatures to be on slightly lower all day long, and then raise the temperature if needed when the home or room is being used. Other people switch the radiators on and off as needed, especially if the home or room is not being used during the day. If you switch the radiators off totally during the day, depending on how well insulated the home is, the walls, floors, ceilings, fixtures and fitting will all cool down. This is turn will then need additional heating time and energy to bring the surrounding areas in a room back up to the temperature you are comfortable with. Please call in to one of our experts, and they will gladly discuss your personal situation, and offer free help or advice.

Thank you for this detailed article. I have a question ... rising from a exorbitant annual reconcilatin electric bill. Is it more efficient to choose a radiator temperature and leave it on day and night for the winter, or to use a digital program that turns the radiator on/off during certain times of the day.
